The Rules Committee for the San Diego City Council on Wednesday will be discussing a Report from the Independent Budget Analyst (IBA) regarding the proposed city council responses to the Grand Jury report on medical marijuana in San Diego. The report issued by the IBA last week announces that “the City is taking enforcement action to close all of the existing shops”.

• Rules Committee Agenda:
• IBA PPT Presentation for Wednesday Meeting:
• IBA Response to Grand Jury Report:

This morning the San Diego City Council held their first meeting after the summer recess. Although there was no medical marijuana issue on the agenda, the community came out and sent a strong message to the city council. During non agenda public comment, Adela Faulk of Wisdom Organics, stepped up to the podium with over a dozen supporters standing behind her with signs. She asked the city council to stop stonewalling the issue, to adopt a sensible regulations, and to stop the attempt to shut down all medical marijuana dispensaries in San Diego while at least a dozen more protesters were in front of the City Hall building with signs.

Her testimony combined with the dozens of supporters in the city council chambers, the rally outside of city hall, and the continued calls and letters, helped sway several members of the council to announce that next week the item will be on the agenda. It did not appear that there will actually be a vote on an ordinance, however, the city council at the least will be discussing the issue next week.

Stay tuned for more information about next week’s City Council meeting, and please come out on Wednesday 9/8, at 9am to the San Diego City Hall (12 floor same room as regular city council meetings) for the Rules Committee discussion on the response to the grand Jury Report.
