Medical Marijuana Advocacy Monthly Chapter Meeting – San Diego ASA

Join patients, advocates, scientists, and concerned citizens Tuesday, July 9th from 7pm – 9pm at Giovanni’s Restaurant located at 9353 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. San Diego, CA 92123 for the July San Diego Chapter of Americans for Safe Access monthly meeting.

At Tuesday’s meeting we will discuss federal legislation as well as updates regarding recent bills introduced in the state senate.

In the City of San Diego, the Mayor has reconvened his informal medical marijuana advisory committee and City Council is set to move forward on an ordinance regulating dispensaries within months. At the same time, prohibitionists in San Diego are ramping up their efforts. This month a newly formed national prohibition organization called “SAM” or Smart Approaches to Marijuana, held a summit in San Diego which was designed to appear as a new approach to regulating cannabis, but in reality was the same old reefer madness propaganda anti cannabis folks have been spreading for years. The organization claimed smoked marijuana is not medicine, that the only way cannabis can be used therapeutically is by getting it approved through the FDA, and that all the states which legalized medical use of cannabis made a mistake in doing so. The organization also proclaimed San Diego as their ground zero in the fight to eradicate medical cannabis in its current form.

At Tuesday’s meeting we will be discussing ideas and our response to the ‘SAM’ campaign and need your help!

In addition, at Tuesday’s meeting we will discuss the recent victory in the Tim O’Shea case, the continued persecution by Bonnie Dumanis of Deborah and Dennis Little, as well as the federal prosecution of Ronnie Chang.
